This is the first ANSI consensus standard on sustainable Green Building for residential construction.
This book was written as a collaborative effort between the ICC and NAHB, and provides Green practices and standards that can be incorporated into new homes, including multi-family buildings, home remodeling and additions, hotels and motels, and the site upon which the green buildings are located.
National Green Building Standard is the first residential green building rating system to undergo the full consensus process and to be submitted to the American National Standards Institute for approval. It provides the complete Green-Building rating system.
How would it feel to officially sell a home as “Green” or “Environmentally Friendly.” Think how valuable it would be if you could put an official “Level of Green” on this home so that buyers can be sure they’re getting the real thing.
Two huge organizations, the NAHB and the ICC, have come to your rescue in making an official national set of standards for all homebuilders to follow. This new standard attaches a rating system to homes based on lot preparation, resource, energy and water efficiency,
indoor and environmental quality.
Ratings consist of four levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Emerald. A higher rating may convince potential buyers that they’ll save on energy costs and possibly add to home value.
The Green Practices illustrated and explained here include lot design, preparation and development; resource efficiency, energy efficiency and water efficiency; indoor environmental quality; and operation, maintenance, and building owner education.
National Green Building Standard provides you with a means to achieve anything from basic entry-level Green building to the highest level of sustainable Green building that incorporates energy savings of 60 percent or higher.
The Standard can be used by any builder for individual projects, or be the basis for a community or state Green building program.
